Motorhome Parking - PoI Download Page.

In the sections below are sets of PoIs which can be downloaded for copying to Tom Tom sat nav devices.

Simply click on the links to download the file and then follow the instructions to install. The download files are zipped and need a program like Winzip or Pentazip to unzip the "real" files. If you don't have such a program, an evaluation version of Pentazip can be downloaded from Here and an an evaluation version of Winzip can be downloaded from Here.

The sets available for download are:

Since loading the PoI sets I have been contacted by people who use Sat Nav devices other than Tom Tom. On running a Google search I discovered a program called POIConvertor which will convert a Tom Tom PoI set for use by various other devices/programs. The program, written and made available by Richard Davies, is available for download from Here.
As long as the conditions of use below are adhered to I am very happy for people to convert my PoI sets using that program.

After seeing this page, Barry Thomas contacted me to tell me about a couple of articles that he that had put together on setting up Itineraries and downloading POIs. Barry very kindly allowed me to load copies to this web site to make them available for people to use. The articles are both in PDF format and can be downloaded by clicking on the following links:

Motor Home Friendly Car Parks.

Conditions of Use.
The records within the PoI file are intended for use with information displayed on the www.motorhomeparking.co.uk web site. That information was supplied by local authorities, other organisations and individuals. The tools used in addition to that information were on-line mapping and aerial photograph sites. There is no guarantee that the information on those sites is 100% accurate. The limited coverage offered by such sites means that some areas of Scotland and the whole of Northern Ireland could not be included in this PoI set.
Existence of a PoI does not imply any right to park as the situation may have changed since the information used to generate the PoI was obtained. Drivers should always seek out any signs before parking to ensure that there is no ban on their vehicle. In particular, whilst some car parks may allow overnight camping, there is no guarantee that any of them will do so.
Some car parks are difficult to identify with certainty so locations are only approximate - the PoI may relate to the road on which the car park is located rather than the car park itself. In addition lack of local knowledge may have led to mis-identification of the name of the car park.
In some places, several car parks may be located along the same road. In such cases the PoI may refer to just the road rather than the individual car parks.
Some car parks may be too small for large vehicles to negotiate and/or park safely. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure safety.
As with any PoI set, drivers should ensure that the route suggested by the satellite navigation device does not take them down a road too restricted for the size of their vehicle.
No liability will be accepted by the creator of this PoI set for any consequences of its use.
This PoI set and associated files are Copyright © Graham Hadfield, 2007 - 2010. It may be freely downloaded by anyone for personal use. You may not make copies for commercial gain, publish or sell any of the contents of the PoI set for any commercial purpose without the prior written consent of Graham Hadfield.
It has come to my notice that copies of this PoI set have been loaded to other download web sites (sometimes even with a charge before a full download is possible). Such sites infringe copyright by their action. They also may well not keep the data up to date. Please do not supply data to such sites or support them in other ways.

Click on the link above to download the file and save it to your hard drive, then unzip the files within it. The Zip File contains six small files: Motorhome_Parking.bmp; Motorhome_Parking.ov2, Motorhome_Parking.gpx, Motorhome_Parking_CSV.csv, Motorhome_Parking_OS.csv and Motorhome_Parking_Readme.txt.

The Readme file is a copy of the Conditions of Use above whilst the Bitmap file is simply an icon for use on sat nav devices.

Motorhome_Parking.ov2 is the file for use on Tom Tom devices. This, together with Motorhome_Parking.bmp, should be copied to the folder on your Tom Tom device which contains the mapping dataset which you use.

Motorhome_Parking.gpx is a set of Google Earth Waypoints for use with Google Earth software which can be downloaded from Button image Here. To open the file after download, start Google Earth and open the dataset from the File menu.

The Motorhome_Parking.gpx file can also be used to create Custom PoIs on a Garmin device. The file, together with Motorhome_Parking.bmp, should be copied to the folder to be used as the source for PoI creation using the Garmin POI Loader program.

The mapping on Google Earth is less detailed than it might be in some places so Motorhome_Parking_CSV.csv is a version of the PoI Set in Comma Separated Variable format available which contains co-ordinates in a form usable with Button image Flash Earth which has Microsoft VE mapping as an alternative to Google Maps. This dataset is also an Autoroute Pushpins dataset.
For use with Flash Earth, open the dataset using Notepad or another text editor (you will need to change "Files of Type" to All Files in the Open dialogue box if it defaults to just .txt files) and use the Find tool to identify the entry you require. Copy the numeric co-ordinates and paste them into the Flash Earth Search box then click the magnifying glass icon to migrate to that point. Use the mouse to zoom in and out.

In response to a request from a user of this web site, a further version of the PoI Set (Motorhome_Parking_OS.csv) has been made available in Comma Separated Variable format. This includes OS Grid References as well as Latitude/Longitude. The parking locations have been parsed to separate town names and the information has been sorted into ascending order of town name.

Energas Depots, Energas Suppliers & Engweld Suppliers.

Conditions of Use.
The records within the PoI file are based on addresses supplied by Energas Ltd. The tools used in addition to that information were on-line mapping and aerial photograph web sites. These were used to convert Post Codes to Latitude & Longitude. There is no guarantee that the information on those web sites is 100% accurate.
As with any PoI set, drivers should ensure that the route suggested by the satellite navigation device does not take them down a road too restricted for the size of their vehicle.
No liability will be accepted by the creator of this PoI set for any consequences of its use.
There are three PoI sets (Energas_Depots, Energas_Suppliers & Engweld_Suppliers) each made up of a pair of files with suffixes ".ov2" and ".bmp". To use the PoI sets, copy the pairs of files into the same folder on the Tom Tom device which contains the mapping database being used.
In addition to the three PoI sets, the Zip file contains the three text files from which they were generated and the original address files supplied by Energas Ltd. The addresses of Energas Depots are on the company's web site at http://www.energas.co.uk/location.asp
The PoI sets and the text files from which they were generated are Copyright © Graham Hadfield, 2007 & 2008. You may not make copies for commercial gain, publish or sell any of the contents of the PoI set for any commercial purpose without the prior written consent of Graham Hadfield.
