City of London

On 25th August 2006 the City of London Council provided the following information:
1. Height Restrictions. There are no on-street height restrictions in the City of London. There are numerous areas where streets are bridged over or built over, but the heights involved are not likely to restrict access by motor homes.
The City of London operates seven public car parks, six in the City of London and one in Spitalfields, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. There is a map showing the locations of these car parks on the City of London's website. You will need to use the enlargement, navigation and map key buttons at the base of the map to view it.
The maximum heights at these facilities are as follows: Baynard House car park, Queen Victoria Street: 1.85 m; London Wall car park, London Wall: 2.08 m; Minories car park, Mansell Street: ground floor, 4.26 m; basement, first, second and third floors, 2.02 m; Swan Lane car park, Swan Lane: 2.32 m; Tower Hill car park, Lower Thames Street: 1.98 m; West Smithfield car park, West Smithfield: 2.0 m; White's Row car park, White's Row: 1.83 m.
Please note that Swan Lane car park will close permanently at 7 p.m. on Thursday 31 August 2006.
National Car Parks Ltd and Q-Park Ltd also operate public car parks in the City of London. You can contact these companies to find out information about their facilities at: NCP Customer Services, Ground Floor, Saint George House, BIRMINGHAM, Warwickshire, B5 4AN or customerservices@ncp.co.uk; Q-Park Ltd, 72 Merrion Street, LEEDS, Yorkshire, LS2 8LW.
2. On-Street Parking Bays
Motor homes are unlikely to be able to fit within the pay and display parking bays in the City of London. It is a parking contravention for a vehicle to park so as not to be entirely within the bay markings. The whole of the City forms part of a controlled parking zone. As a result, it is not possible to park a motor home on street in the City of London during the operational period of the main City controlled parking zone, which is 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Saturday.
3. Toilet and Waste-Disposal Facilities
With the exception of West Smithfield car park, all of the public car parks operated by the City of London, as listed at 1. above, have toilet facilities available. There are no waste-disposal facilities for motor homes available in the City of London.
4. Spaces for Motor Homes and Caravans
There are no parking bays or other facilities specifically aimed at or provided for motor homes in the City of London.
5. Overnight Parking
There is no prohibition on parking motor homes overnight in the City of London, so outside the operational period of the main City controlled parking zone (8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Saturday) motor homes may be parked on single yellow lines.
6. Width Restrictions
There are no on-street width restrictions in the City of London. However, the mediaeval street pattern that is a characteristic feature of the City means that many streets are very narrow, and while it is not prohibited to do so, it would be unwise to take a motor home down the narrowest streets. Drivers need to exercise their judgement as to the appropriateness of a particular street, which will obviously depend on the width of their particular vehicle.
On 10th December 2007, in response to a follow up request, The City of London Council confirmed that the above information remains valid, with the exception that Swan Lane public car park has now closed permanently.
The City of London Council has further parking details on its web site Here.

3. Any provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities. There are no provisions for toilet and waste disposal facilities.
4. Any provision of spaces specifically aimed at motorhomes and/or caravans. There is no provision of spaces specifically aimed at motorhomes and/or caravans.

Bexley

On 5th September 2006, Bexley Council provided the following information:
1. Height restrictions. Bexley Council operates two pay and display car parks which do not contain height restrictions, all other car parks have physical prevention barriers, or are multi-storey, and would not accommodate vehicles which exceed the height of a regular transit van (approximately 2 metres): Oaklands Road car park, Oaklands Road, Bexleyheath and Nags Head Lane car park, Nags Head Lane, Welling.
The above car parks operate as overnight commercial vehicle parking areas as there is ban throughout London which applies to most residential streets, which prohibits vehicles which attract a maximum gross weight of 5 tonnes or more from being parked on street overnight.
Motorists who consider that their vehicle would breach the above conditions and thus contravene the commercial vehicle waiting ban may park in the above car parks for an overnight charge of £10.00, from 17:30 to 08:30, Monday to Saturday. Other car park regulations may prevent such vehicles being parked in the above car parks during the day.
2. Requirements for parking. Motorists when parking in the Council's pay and display car parks must ensure that their vehicle is completely contained within a single parking bay. Bexley Council does not permit motorists to purchase more than one pay and display ticket to cover more than one space unless a special exemption to the regulations has been sought and granted by the Council. Motorists who do not park in accordance with the above conditions are subject to a Penalty Charge Notice of £80.00.
3. Any provision of toilet and waste facilities. There are no such facilities attached to any of Bexley Council's pay display car parks.
4. Any provision for spaces specifically aimed at motor homes and / or caravans. There are no such spaces provided within any of Bexley Council's pay and display car parks.
5. Any provision for (or ban on) overnight parking. Yes - see response to 1 above, over night commercial vehicle waiting ban applies 18:30 to midnight and midnight to 08:00.
6. Restricted roads caused by narrow roads. Access to the two overnight car parks (as shown in response to 1 above) is not hindered by narrow roads or entrances etc. There are no other car parks which would provide for the parking of a motor home or equivalent within the London Borough of Bexley operated as a pay and display car park by Bexley Council.
On 30th January 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the council confirmed that the above information had not changed.
Bexley Council have further details of council car parks on their web site Here.

Brent

On 11th October 2006, Brent Council provided a spreadsheet showing weight, width & height restrictions associated with bridges in their area. This can be download in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format from Here.
The Council also provided the following information:
1. Height restrictions. There are no known traffic orders for restrictions. Please see attached spreadsheet for details of restrictions at bridges.
2. Requirements for parking within bay confines (including any requirement for purchasing two parking tickets where the length of a vehicle means that it overhangs a second bay at its rear). Generally speaking, during controlled parking times, our parking places are for passenger vehicles and goods carrying vehicles, not for motorhomes. However, a motorhome will satisfy the definition of passenger vehicle if it is not drawing a trailer and its overall height is not more than 2.28 metres and its overall length does not exceed 5.25 metres. Further, every part of the vehicle must be within the limits of the parking space and the vehicle must bear a valid ticket or permit.
Outside controlled parking times these restrictions do not apply.
If your vehicle is parked within parking bays and extends to confined only one space you do not need to purchase the second parking ticket. However you must maintain clearance from the tyres of your car to the start of the yellow lines.
The vehicle can only park in one bay and must be contained wholly within that bay, and cannot stay more than the maximum period allowed during restricted hours.
3. Any provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities. Overnight parking, cooking and washing is specifically prohibited in any of the car parks run and maintained by LBB. There is no such specific ban in relation to parking bays on street. However, none of the facilities asked for are provided.
4. Any provision of spaces specifically aimed at motorhomes and/or caravans. There are no parking places specifically allocated to motorhomes.
5. Any provision for (or ban on) overnight parking. There are no provisions for overnight parking such as lorry park areas in Brent. Motorhomes are not affected by the borough-wide ban on overnight parking by commercial vehicles exceeding 5 tonnes.
6. Restricted access caused by narrow roads/entrances.
The following is a list of roads with traffic orders for 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 metres) width restrictions: Sudbury Court Road; Salmon Street; Slough Lane; College Road; Minet Road/Harley Road junction; Lydford Road; Tubbs Road/Nightingale Road junction; Allendale Road; Purves Road.
The following is a list of roads with traffic orders for 7 feet (2.13 metres) width restrictions: Capitol Way; Hannah Close and Great Central Way junction; Grove Park; Draycott Avenue.
Brent Council have further parking details on their web site Here.

Bromley

On 3rd October 2006, Bromley Borough Council provided the following information:
Unfortunately motor homes would not be able to fit in the vast majority of our car parks, as they are either multi-storeys, have height restrictions, or would require vehicles to park with all wheels inside the bays to avoid being issued a Penalty Charge Notice.
The only exceptions are St George's Rd lorry park, Beckenham and Cotmandene Crescent lorry park, St Paul's Cray.
Bromley Borough Council have further details of council car parks on their web site Here.

Camden

On 21st September 2006, Camden Borough Council provided the following information:
I must point out that, in general, there is no provision for motor homes within the London Borough of Camden for large vehicles.
1. Height restrictions: there is a height restriction imposed in the borough for residents wishing to purchase a permit for their vehicles. This is currently set at 2.3 metres.
2. Parking within bay: a vehicle must park within the confines of each bay. The width of bays (parallel to the kerb) is mainly set at 2.0 metres, but some narrow roads, of which Camden has many, are set at the minimum of 1.8 metres. Most bays (residents' and pay & display) in the borough are not individually marked cut, so there is no standard length of bays and they all vary according to the road layout. On an un-segregated bay you would not have to purchase two tickets, if your vehicle fitted in the space.
3. Toilet & waste disposal: none to our knowledge.
4. Special bays: none
5. Ban on overnight parking: Yes there is a borough-wide Order, which prohibits vehicles of over 5 tonnes from parking overnight.
6. Restricted access: Generally there are large areas of the borough, which are heavily congested, and not suitable for large vehicles. Also many roads have width restrictions and traffic calming. Larger roads are indicated by the Priority Route Network (Red Routes).

On 22nd April 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the Council stated:
1. There is no dedicated off-street parking for Motorhome vehicles in the London Borough of Camden.
2. There is the Bloomsbury Square Underground Car Park. The height restriction in place is 6ft 3. Details of this Council Managed Car Park are on our website Here.
Camden Borough Council have further details of council car parks on their web site Here.

Croydon

On 13th September 2006, Croydon Borough Council provided the following information:
Height restrictions apply to all our surface car parks (Mainly max height of 6ft 6inches). Except Spices Yard, Russell Hill Place and Anne's Place surface car parks.
All users of the car park must be wholly within the bay markings or they are liable to a penalty charge notice.
There are no provisions for public toilets, other than what is within streets of the Borough.
We have no spaces specifically aimed at motor homes or caravans.
There are no overnight lorry bans which apply if the vehicle is below 5 tonnes gross.
Although there are no height restrictions at Spices Yard and Russell Hill Place there is restricted access i.e. narrow entrance for HGV, it should be ok for wider vehicles like transits or motor homes, not articulated lorries etc.
It is an infringement/contravention of the parking order 1991 and TMO (Traffic Management Order) to use any car park for the following reasons:
Provision No 16 - For the purpose of sleeping or camping, eating or cooking purposes, for the purpose of servicing, washing, cleaning construction maintaining or repairing any vehicle or part thereof other than is reasonably necessary to enable that vehicle to depart from the parking place.
Provision No 18 - No person shall leave in a parking place a caravan, skip, unattached trailer or any other container or object which is not capable of being moved from the parking place other than being towed or carried by a vehicle.
On 10th April 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the Council confirmed that the above information was still accurate.
Croydon Borough Council have further details of council car parks on their web site Here.
Users of this web site have provided the following information:
Coulsdon
Just to let you know that Croydon Council have a large car park in Lion Green Road, Coulsdon, Surrey. That has overnight parking for Coaches and H.G.V.s but no toilet's. Also, on the last bit of the A23 (between end of M23 and Coulsdon) there are long layby's with overnight parking and Transport Cafe's. (Thanks very much to Dougy for this information, received 25 February 2007).

Enfield

On 7th September 2006, Enfield Council provided the following information:
1 All council car parks are protected by a 6' 6'' height barrier to prevent high sided vehicles gaining access to the car parks.
2 If the vehicle can enter the car park and park it must park within a marked bay.
3 We have no provision of toilets or waste disposal facilities in any car park.
4 No specific provision for caravans or motorhomes in any car parks at the present time. All car parks are layed out with 6m aisles which would cause difficulty in manoeuvring long wheel based vehicles.
5 There is an overnight parking ban in all car parks.
6 We do have a lorry/coach park at Crown Lane, Enfield which can sometimes park long vehicles on a casual basis. This has toilet and shower facilities.
On 10th March 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the council confirmed that the information above was still accurate.
Enfield Council have further details of council car parks on their web site Here.

Greenwich

On 19th September 2006, Greenwich Council provided the following information:
1. The Council pointed out that they have full details of council car parks on their web site Here. The information includes details of authorised vehicles including height and weight restrictions.
2. As stated on the Tariff Boards in the car parks, vehicles are required to park within the marked bays. This means that all 4 wheels must be within the bay. Provided all 4 wheels are within the bay, vehicle overhang is accepted. We do not operate a policy whereby vehicles can purchase two tickets if the vehicle occupies two bays. As indicated above the 4 wheels must be within the bay.
3. There are no waste disposal facilities. Our Calderwood Street Car park in Woolwich has toilets. No other car parks have toilets.
4. None of our car parks have spaces specifically aimed at motorhomes and/or caravans.
5. The website information advises the hours of operation of the car parks and whether there is a charge or free overnight parking - under the same rules as indicated in 1 and 2 above.
6. The website provides a linked location map for each car park.

Hackney

On 30th November 2006, Hackney Borough Council provided the following information:
1. Height/Weight restrictions. We have some size, weight and height within Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ) in Hackney as described below. Outside CPZ the maximum weight on what can park in the borough is 7 tonnes. Limits to vehicle size within Controlled Parking Zones:
All residents living in Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) in Hackney are entitled to purchase residents permits and visitors vouchers for parking in their Zone.
Applicants are entitled to one permit per vehicle.
The following length/weight restrictions apply: vehicles must not exceed 2.27m in width or 5.25m in length or weigh in excess of 2540 kg.
2. Requirements for parking within bay confines (including any requirement for purchasing two parking tickets where the length of a vehicle means that it overhangs a second bay at its rear). Within CPZ vehicles need to park entirely within the bay markings.
3. Any provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities. The Council currently has a project to provide a sustainable Public Convenience Service for Hackney. Six potential sites have been identified. The first two facilities (Ridley Road Market and Hoxton Street) will be operational early in 2006. The third public convenience will be in the Narrow Way (Mare Street). These toilets have been designed to the highest standards to provide a safe environment, be easy to maintain and resistant to vandalism and misuse. All these new facilities will have disabled access and baby change facilities. There are also two Automatic Toilets which are at Dalston Junction and Kingsland Waste.
4. Any provision of spaces specifically aimed at motorhomes and/or caravans. London Borough of Hackney has not got an official policy in this regard and no official caravan sites exist within the borough.
5. Any provision for (or ban on) overnight parking. Hackney does not have any specific policy regarding overnight parking. However, Hackney is included in the area of the London Lorry Control Scheme, which bans heavy vehicles from parking overnight. London Councils (formerly the ALG) has recently reviewed this scheme, the report of which can be downloaded from Here.
6. Restricted access caused by narrow roads/entrances. A physical restriction comprising of bollards and islands and mandatory traffic signs are used to physically enforce width restrictions. Typical restrictions used are 6’ 6”, 7’ 0” and 7’ 6” in imperial measurements. Where the road environment has a naturally restricted width due to its physical constraints the local authority can use either warning signs or mandatory signed restrictions to try and prevent vehicles from becoming trapped. Drivers are advised to use their judgment before entering a road and ensure their parking does not cause any obstruction to the highway. No list of roads with width restrictions is currently available.

All of our car parks have a height restriction barrier of 2.3m and the Council's traffic orders for Off Street Parking Places do not permit any vehicle over 2.3m to park in any of our car surface parks. The ceiling height of our multi storey at Angel Way would not permit access to any vehicle over 2.3m.

3. Any provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities. N/A

In appropriate cases, the police can commence proceedings for obstruction of the highway.
6. Restricted roads caused by narrow roads. As with any vehicle, the driver must not cause an obstruction of the highway in any form.

On 8th April 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the Council provided the following information:
We do not currently have any off-street parking areas for HGVs or large vehicles. Depending on the size of the motorhomes, it may be able to use our standard car parks. All of our car parks have height restriction barriers fitted, which range in height from 1.9 to 2.0 metres. If the motorhomes is able to fit under the height restriction barriers and park so that its wheels are completely within the bay markings, then it is permitted to car that car park. We do not permit the parking of vehicles across multiple parking bays. Generally, the bays in the car parks are 5.5 metres long and 2.5 metres wide.
Provided the motorhome is under 5 tonnes gross in weight, it can be parked on the Public Highway. However, the public has a right to pass and re pass freely over the boundaries of a highway and it is an offence to obstruct such passage without lawful authority, under Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980. In appropriate cases, the police can commence proceedings for obstruction of the highway. As with any vehicle, the driver must not cause an obstruction of the highway in any form.

Hounslow

On 4th October 2006, Hounslow Borough Council provided the following information:
1. Height restrictions apply in council car parks, many of which have height restraint barriers at 2.0 metres. In addition, for on-street parking spaces there is a height restriction of 2.28 metres, a width restriction of 1.80 metres and a length restriction of 5.25 metres.
2. All Regulations require vehicles to park wholly within the markings of a parking bay. If they are unable to do so they risk being fined. No facility is available to purchase tickets to cover two bays. The local Regulations for car parks prohibit their use for sleeping, eating or washing in.
3. There is no provision for toilet and waste disposal facilities.
4. All vehicles that use our parking spaces are controlled by the size dimensions mentioned above.
5. There is not a ban on overnight parking within the borough, any vehicle that parks on-street has to comply with all National Regulations regarding lighting, distance from junctions etc.
6. Some car parks do have restricted accesses, however a motorhome would almost certainly be too large to legally park.
Given the requirements of someone using a motorhome, the only place I believe they could legitimately use to provide all the services they require is the Heston Service Station on the M4 motorway.
Hounslow Borough Council have further details of council car parks on their web site Here.

1. Height restrictions. The maximum height for a vehicle to be parked in an Islington parking bay is 2.28m, the maximum length of a vehicle is 5.5m.
2. Requirements for parking within bay confines (including any requirement for purchasing two parking tickets where the length of a vehicle means that it overhangs a second bay at its rear). Parking bays are between 1.8m and 2m wide and vary in length. If a vehicle overhangs a parking bay a parking attendant may issue a ticket. The manner of standing in a parking place is so that every part of the vehicle is within the limits of a parking bay or parking space of a parking place. Drivers are not permitted to purchase more than 1 pay & display ticket at one time. If a vehicle cannot fully park within the confines of a bay or parking space of a parking place they will be liable for a Penalty Charge Notice issued under contravention 24 'not parked correctly within the markings of the bay or space'.
3. Any provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities. Islington council does not offer any caravan, motor home or other toilet waste disposal facility. Small quantities of domestic waste from visitors and tourists may be placed in our on street litter bins; these are strategically placed at frequent intervals on the public highway, especially in areas of high footfall, near bus stops and outside schools and transport hubs. Glass, cans, paper, cardboard, textiles and plastic bottles may all be recycled, and Islington has over 150 on-street recycling banks in the borough - the nearest to your location can be found using our online interactive maps at Here. Islington also has a modern Reuse and Recycling Centre, in Hornsey Street, where other materials such as scrap metal, wood and car batteries may be brought for recycling; the facility also accepts general waste, but every effort is made to segregate as much as is possible for diversion from landfill.
4. Any provision of spaces specifically aimed at motor homes and/or caravans. There are no spaces specifically aimed at motor homes or caravans.
5. Any provision for (or ban on) overnight parking. There are no provisions for overnight parking.
Islington Council have parking details on their web site Here.

Kensington & Chelsea

On 8th November 2006, Kensington & Chelsea Council provided the following information:
1. Height restrictions. We have no general height restrictions in Kensington and Chelsea for vehicles.
2. Requirements for parking within bay confines (including any requirement for purchasing two parking tickets where the length of a vehicle means that it overhangs a second bay at its rear). All of our bays are 150cm wide. Our Pay and Display bays are 548.6cm long. A vehicle longer than this is not permitted to park on our Pay and Display bays during enforced hours. Obviously vehicles are allowed to be parked on our permit bays, Pay and Display bays and single yellow lines out side of enforcement hours.
3. Any provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea does not provide any specific toilet facilities for caravan or motor home users.
4. Any provision of spaces specifically aimed at motor homes and/or caravans. As Kensington and Chelsea is a central London borough we do not have any specific spaces aimed at motor home or caravan users.
5. Any provision for (or ban on) overnight parking. Vehicles that are seven and a half tonnes or more are forbidden to park in Kensington and Chelsea overnight. This applies to all vehicles. Any vehicles smaller than this can park overnight as long as they are not in a restricted area and not affecting traffic flow.
6. Restricted access caused by narrow roads/entrances. We do have a large number of narrow streets and entrances to streets. All we would recommend is that motor home and caravan users stick to our main trunk routes that pass through the borough in to Central London.
Due to the size and location of the borough it is with regret that we do not encourage the use of motor homes or caravans. We suffer from an acute lack of parking provision in Kensington and Chelsea for our residents. This is the reason for our lack of facilities for motor home/caravan users, we also do not allow permits for visitors or business's in the borough.

Within Council run car parks toilet facilities are provided at Drapers, Bittoms and Blagdon Road. 4. Provision of Spaces specifically aimed at Motorhomes and/or Caravans. There are no designated parking spaces for motorhomes or caravans on streets in the Borough nor in Council operated Car Parks.
5. Provision for Overnight Parking. The Council's off-street parking places order prohibits any part of the car park or any vehicle left in the carpark being used either for sleeping, camping or washing purposes or for eating or cooking purposes.
The following Council operated car parks are not available overnight: Kingston, The Bittoms, Cattle Market, Drapers, Guildhall, Ashdown Road (Monday nights), New Malden, Blagdon Road. Other operators should be contacted for details relating to their facilities.

There are three Council run carparks: Leigham Court Road, Streatham SW16; Waylett Place, West Norwood SE27; Brixton Multi-Storey Car Park, Brixton, London SW9. Details are available via our Website Here.
Height Restrictions apply at Brixton Multi-Storey Car Park (2.06 M) and Leighham Court Road (2 Meters).
Leigham Court Road & Waylett Place are surface car parks but vehicles are only to park in one bay. These bays would not be suitable for Mobile Home Vehicles.
Leigham Court Road has a Public Convenience adjacent but no waste disposal facility. This car park is open Monday - Saturday 7am to 7pm. There is no overnight Parking.
Waylett Place has a very narrow turning at the rear of shops so would therefore only be suitable for cars. This car park merely has 8 spaces and these would only facilitate cars. No overnight parking is available. There is no height restriction on this car park and no waste disposal facility or Public Toilet facility.
Brixton Multi-Storey Car Park is only suitable for cars as it was constructed in 1974 the corners are narrow and tight. Open Monday to Saturday 7am to 23.30 pm. There is no overnight parking. Southwark

On 9th January 2007 Southwark Borough Council provided the following information:
Requirements for parking within bay confines (including any requirement for purchasing two parking tickets where the length of a vehicle means that it overhangs a second bay at its rear). The vehicles do not fit in a bay are not permitted to park in these bays displaying one or more pay & display tickets or permits.
Any provision for (or ban on) overnight parking. Overnight ban only applies in London for Goods vehicle over 5 Tonnes.
Southwark Council does not keep a list of narrow roads or height restrictions in the borough. Any roads with restricted access are clearly marked in accordance with Department for Transport approved signs.
As this only partially answered the questions posed the following supplementary request was sent to the council:
1. I note that there is no answer to the third and fourth points which I raised. Do I take this to mean that there are no toilet facilities etc in the Borough?
2. The statement regarding Overnight Parking appears to apply only to on-street. Does this mean that overnight parking in car parks is allowed?
3. The statement "Southwark Council does not keep a list of narrow roads or height restrictions in the borough." - is it really the case that the Council does not know whether there are height or other restrictors at the entrances to its car parks?
On 1st February 2007, Southwark Council's parking services and highways department repeated the same answer as previously sent - that the data is not available.

The car parks in Church Lane and Frogmore (SW18) are not suitable for larger vehicles, they only accommodate 6 and 9 cars respectively.
There are 3 Parking Grounds in Battersea Park: Chelsea Car Park; Rosary Car Park and Albert Car Park. Further details are available on the Wandsworth Borough Council web site Here.
No overnight parking is allowed in the Park.

On 19th March 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the council supplied the following information:
Unless previous authority/arrangements have been made no overnight parking(camping) is permitted in any of the parks in Wandsworth.
No provision exists for parking - overnight or other on any of the commons or other open spaces, the only exception being Dr Johnson's (Tooting Common) and the Tooting Lido car parks which are unsecured public car parks. However, being part of Tooting Common any overnight parking could be considered "camping" and in that case a violation of the bylaw on camping will have been committed.
The parking grounds in Battersea Park are:- Chelsea car park, Rosary car park, Albert car park.
Unsecured parking exists at:-
Tooting Common:- Dr Johnson’s Avenue, Tooting Bec Lido.
King George’s Park:- Burr Road Car Park, Mapleton Road (not suitable for long vehicles).
No other formal car parks exist in the parks and open spaces of the borough
The Council has responsibility for a further 2 off street car parks, Frogmore and Church Lane. These car parks are not suitable for the parking of motor homes due to their small size.

Westminster

On 22nd September 2006 City of Westminster Council provided the following information:
1) There are height restrictions on resident parking bays, for resident permit holders, however, there are no height restrictions on paid for parking facilities.
2) All vehicles are required to park within the confines of the bay and will be ticketed if they overhang or park outside of the bay confines. Therefore it is not possible to purchase two pay and display tickets and park over two parking spaces.
3) Details of public toilets can be found on the Council's website Here.
4) There are no specified bays for motor homes and caravans. Shared use parking bays could be used for parking long vehicles.
5) The Overnight Parking Ban applies to vehicles over 5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, but it only applies to Commercial Vehicles and vehicles carrying more than 8 passengers. It would not, therefore, apply to motorhomes, unless they were very big. I believe it applies throughout London. It certainly applies throughout Westminster.
6) There are very many narrow streets, Mews etc. in Westminster. It is not possible to give information on them all, but the only actual width restrictions that I am aware of are on vehicles wider than 6'6" in Westbourne Park Road and Talbot Road.

On 10th April 2008, in response to a follow-up request, the Council provided the following information:
A list of all Westminster City Council’s car parks along with operating hours, height restrictions and terms and conditions is on the Council’s website Here.
It would however, be unlikely, that a motor home would gain entry to any of Westminster City Council’s car parks; as the height restriction is between 6ft and 7ft. It is not permissible to reside at any time in a vehicle whilst parked in a Westminster City Council car park. I can inform you that there are a number of car parks in Westminster managed by private operators; I am unable to comment on their conditions of use.
City of Westminster Council have further parking details on their web site Here.
