Barnsley

On 27th September 2006 Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council provided the following information:
1. Height Restrictions – Other than the multi-storey car parks there are no restrictions.
2. Bay Confines – Generally there are no confines but given our car parks that can permit access are normally very full we suggest drivers of larger motor homes contact the parking services on 01226 772164 to discuss, there are health and safety issues with the narrowness of circulation areas and levels that might impede access and egress for larger vehicles. We make no additional charge for the space occupied but drivers use the car parks at their own risk.
3. There are no toilets or waste disposal facilities on any of our car parks, there will be litter bins adjacent each car park but these are not designed for anything mores than street litter.
4. None of our car parks have any spaces design specifically for this purpose such as Motor homes and caravans.
5. All car parks have an overnight ban
6. There are a number of our car parks we consider not suitable at any time for access by larger vehicles and others that if space is available can be used, thus using the map on the website (see below) as reference these are as follows:
Not suitable – Sites A, B, C, J, K, AL (Weight limit), M (closed).
Suitable (if space available) – Sites D,E,F,G,H,P,R,S,T.
You should note that for the next few years Barnsley is undergoing a major transformation and under the banner of “Remaking Barnsley” you will see that there is much development activity. What this means is that for some time parking is at a premium in the town centre for all users, we would advise that if anyone wanting to visit Barnsley in a Motor home contact the Car Parking Team and they will be better placed to advise over this period on which car park at what time of day is the best to use.
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council have a map which includes car park locations on their web site Here.

Doncaster

On 25th August 2006 Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council provided the following information:
Within the town centre area of Doncaster there are two Pay and Display car parks that could be used by owners of Motor Homes. The car parks are Waterdale Central and Chappell Drive.
Both these sites have Parking Spaces rather than bays so the size of a vehicle is not an issue as neither is Height as both car parks do not have site restrictors.
The vehicle would have to purchase a ticket which is consistent with the car park tariff to which the current maximum charge is : Waterdale Central : £5-50 for maximum stay of 10 Hours; Chappell Drive : £3-50 for a maximum stay of 24 hours.
Both sites are governed by traffic regulation order and as thus can only be used for Parking and any action observed that included cooking would require a Parking Attendant to issue a Penalty Charge Notice.
There are no other specific facilities on each car park and both sites are easily accessed.

On 20th December 2007, in response to a follow-up request Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council provided a listing of Car Parks operated by the Authority in Doncaster Town Centre and the following update:
No site permits overnight parking or use of bays to include selling goods, cleaning vehicles, cooking and consumption of food or sleeping in a vehicle.
The only sites that can be used (TRO) by vehicles requiring multi bay occupancy without issue of a Penalty Charge Notice are :- Chappell Drive and Waterdale Central (Extension Area).
All relevant payments (Pay and Display) must be observed when parked.
I will also allow motorhome users to park in the former southern bus station (part of the mscp) in the designated 'Coach' parking bays and this is Free Of Charge.
All TRO's are Monday to Saturday 06-00 to 18-00 (inc Good Friday).
All Sunday Parking and Bank Holiday use is Free of Charge unless Stated.
The list of car parks can be downloaded in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format from Here.
