North Warwickshire

On 18th September 2006 North Warwickshire Borough Council provided the following information:
North Warwickshire Borough Council is unique in comparison to other authorities whereby there is no tariff for use on any of the public car parks. However each car park location has its own individual waiting period that varies from half a hour to all day parking. Unfortunately there is a weight restriction of 1.5 tonnes and there are no car park spaces specifically designated for motorhomes or caravans.
The Council’s (Off Street Parking Places) Order, 1995 section 12(a) reads; No person shall use any part of a parking place or any vehicle left in a parking place for sleeping, camping, caravanning, or cooking purposes.
North Warwickshire Borough Council have parking details on their web site Here.
Update 13 June 2007:
Some time after the initial reply from North Warwickshire Council above it came to my notice that many other vehicles (e.g. large 4x4s) weigh in excess of 1.5 tonnes (some of the largest 4x4s even being heavier than many motorhomes). A further request for information was sent to the council asking for clarification. In response the council stated "The weight restriction placed on vehicles using this Council’s car parks are solely for the purpose of discouraging large goods and commercial vehicles. To date no fixed penalty charges have been issued to such offenders but are discouraged through polite persuasion and educational means, enforcement would be the last resort. North Warwickshire Borough Council actively encourages visiting tourists through its free car parks and would not penalise 4 x 4 vehicles or multi people carriers on the grounds of the gross vehicular weight exceeding 1.5 tonnes. However sleeping, camping, caravanning or cooking in any part of a parking place would not be permitted."

Rugby

On 5th October 2006 Rugby Borough Council provided the following information:
There are only two car parks where vehicles over the standard space size of 2.4m by 4.8m may park. These are Stoneyard car park and Westway (part) car park. There are height barriers at the John Barford multi-storey car park and one section of the Westway car park. No other car parks have height restrictions. However the Fairground car park is only available on cattle market days and for market patrons only. There are no facilities for toilet emptying or water provision.
The current off street parking order has a provision that “no person shall use a vehicle while it is left in a parking place for sleeping or cooking”.

Update 25 June 2007:
Some time after the initial reply from Stratford-on-Avon District Council above it came to my notice that many other vehicles (e.g. large 4x4s) weigh in excess of 2 tons (some of the largest 4x4s even being heavier than many motorhomes). A further request for information was sent to the council asking for clarification. In response the council stated "Information on vehicle weight is shown on the Road Tax licence, and the Council’s Parking Attendants are instructed how to use this to judge whether a vehicle exceeds the weight limit as part of their induction programme."

Stratford-upon-Avon Park & Ride
A number of contributions have been received about this facility: SL, 19 July 2006; IS, 13 October 2006 and JS 21 January/2 April/17 October 2007.
On 28 November 2007 the following statement was sent in by GE (Park & Ride Supervisor):
Stratford upon Avon Park & Ride do allow campervans in. They just have to be patent until the supervisor raises the barrier. You have to go to the bottom of the site for free parking and no overnight stays are allowed. An vehicles still on the car park after 19:30 will be locked in with a release fee of £36. Vehicles that are locked in all night and not released have the risk of being clamped by the traffic wardens and a fine of £60.
Many thanks to all who contributed.
Stratford-upon-Avon - Other
Many thanks to V for the following information, received on 13 April 2007:
Over the winter Stratford car parks have become unfriendly! They are now nearly all pay and display or 3 hour max stay. The carpark near the hospital has a 6ft 6 height barrier.
a) The car park at the back of the leisure centre has all day and night pay and display with dedicated long vehicle/motorhome bays – hourly charge upto £6.50 for max of 24 hours. Or overnight from 6pm to 8am £1.50. Blue badge holders park free. Well lit and quiet once leisure centre has closed. Signs say you cannot sleep in your vehicle, but the unofficial response from the council is that they have only issued 3 tickets to overnighting motorhomes in 10 years.
b) The cattle market carpark, adjacent to train station, is hourly rate, up to £4 per day max. Overnight parking from 6pm to 9am is £20. No signs to say no sleeping. No free parking for blue badge holders. Not much street lighting. No trains run at night, so should be reasonably quiet during during main sleepy hours but market days in Stratford are Fri and Sat, so expect a lot of traders vans to be parked here from 7am onwards. The front part of the car park is used as a car boot mkt on saturday mornings.
c) The Stratford Park and Ride in Bishopton Lane (Junction of A3400 and A46, north side of town) has dedicated motorhome parking bays. Parking is free, the bus is £1.30 per person return. The park and ride is locked up at 7.30pm until 7.30am. Overnighting - unofficial response was that you will be locked in if you chose to stay after 7.30pm. There is no vehicle or pedestrian access at night.
d) My suggestion would be Bishopton park and ride by day and Leisure centre car park at night.

Warwick District

On 4th September 2006 Warwick District Council pointed out that details are published on their web site Here.
Users of this web site have provided the following information:
Leamington Spa
For a flat wide residential parking street (with plenty of unrestricted parking space for 'vans) within 10 mins. walk of Leamington Spa town centre, I would recommend using the southern end of Northumberland Road CV32 6HA. (NGR SP314667). (Many thanks to KO for this information, received 15 April 2008).
Warwick
1) August 2006. Tesco supermarket at Emscote Road is easy to access and park in. The Sainsburys supermarket near the CC site at Warwick Racecourse has restricted entry to and exit from its car park.
2) According to Warwick District Council, motorhomes may park on the Adelaide Bridge Car Park, Adelaide Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Parking at Adelaide Bridge Car Park costs £3.50 for 6+ hours and you have to park within the bays. Also, motorhomes are allowed to park in the Myton Fields Car Park, Myton Road, Warwick where there is no height barrier. (Many thanks to LadyJ for this information, received 1st February 2007).
